Set-theoretic Properties of Schmidt’s Ideal

We study some set-theoretic properties of Schmidt’s σ-ideal on R, emphasizing its analogies and dissimilarities with both the classical σ-ideals on R of Lebesgue measure zero sets and of Baire first category sets. We highlight the strict analogy between Schmidt’s ideal on R and Mycielski’s ideal on 2N.

On (σ, τ)-module extension Banach algebras

Let A be a Banach algebra and X be a Banach A-bimodule. In this paper, we define a new product on $Aoplus X$ and generalize the module extension Banach algebras. We  obtain characterizations of Arens regularity, commutativity, semisimplity, and study the ideal structure and derivations of this new Banach algebra.

*-σ-biderivations on *-rings

Bresar in 1993 proved that each biderivation on a noncommutative prime ring is a multiple of a commutatot. A result of it is a characterization of commuting additive mappings, because each commuting additive map give rise to a biderivation. Then in 1995, he investigated biderivations, generalized biderivations and sigma-biderivations on a prime ring and generalized the results of derivations fo...

Arawak Linguistics and Max Schmidt’s Account of Arawak Expansion

Although Max Schmidt’s thesis focuses on the expansion of Arawak cultures, language consistently looms in the background of Schmidt’s work as an important marker of cultural affinity and symptom of cultural influence. As a consequence, linguistics -and linguistic classification in particular -plays an important role in Schmidt’s thesis. In this chapter I discuss the role played by linguistics i...

Prime Radicals of Skew Laurent Polynomial Rings

Let R be a ring with an automorphism σ. An ideal I of R is σ-ideal of R if σ(I) = I. A proper ideal P of R is σ-prime ideal of R if P is a σ-ideal of R and for σ-ideals I and J of R, IJ ⊆ P implies that I ⊆ P or J ⊆ P . A proper ideal Q of R is σ-semiprime ideal of Q if Q is a σ-ideal and for a σ-ideal I of R, I2 ⊆ Q implies that I ⊆ Q. The σ-prime radical is defined by the intersection of all ...
